According to a study in 2015 by Nature Geoscience, the early rain our Earth had was made of iron. It took place at least 4.5 billion years ago. At that time, some space rock vaporized when it came in contact with the still-developing planet. From that, rose, plumes of iron and rock, before falling down as iron rain.

In the late Archaean Eon, the water-based rain started to fell on Earth. However, the process may have begun way back. But scientists have discovered fossilized raindrop imprints which are 2.7 billion years old and hidden in volcanic tuff of South Africa.
Devastation Of Acid Rain
Acid rain leaves a completely different imprint on various types of surfaces. It erodes marble and limestone while corroding metal as it pours down on Earth. When a rain with the ph of lesser than 5.2 falls, it is considered as acid rain. After forest fires, volcanic eruptions, and various other events, acid rain can happen naturally. These events release plenty of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. When it rains, the compound dissolves into the water creating sulphuric acid.
Unlike natural acid rain, unnatural way of acid rain poses larger environmental threats. It can cause deforestation. As humans have become dependent on fossil fuel, it released nitrate and sulfate ions. And both these ions come down on Earth as acid rain at unprecedented levels.
Raindrop Facts: A Soothing Smell Of Rain
As rain hits the clay or dusty soil, it traps tiny air bubbles on these surfaces. Later these bubbles shoot upwards just like inside a glass of Champagne before bursting out. When the bubbles burst, they throw away the scent of aerosols into the atmosphere. As wind flow by the site, it reaches our nasal sense, leaving us to feel amazing. We know the smell of rain as “petrichor.”
Shape Of The Raindrop
In general, we represent the rain as teardrop, but raindrops never look like that. When rain forms high up in the environment, it has a spherical shape. Due to surface tension in the higher atmosphere, the water molecules bind themselves together. But as they fall, the shape of the droplets changes as the droplets hit each-other. The air-resistance makes the bottom part of each droplet flat, making the raindrop look like a jelly bean.
