About Graham Sylvester
He was the reformer of temperance and vegetarianism moment in the United States. He is the father of vegetarianism. In New York City, Graham and his friends had founded the American Vegetarian Society in 1850. His invention of graham flour changed the way of eating of the people. He has died at an early age of 57.
History Of Graham Cracker
It is originated in the 1880s. Rev. Sylvester Graham, Presbyterian minister, New Jersey had invented this boring snack. Around 1828. He had a mission behind this. He wanted to reduce external damnation to save the souls of the people. The thought behind was to repress deep carnal urges, their sexual needs, and temptation to masturbate. Graham believed to live as God wanted to make them live. He thought that natural principles help people to live healthily.
Graham made the crackers with wheat flour, oil and salt. Graham crackers are purely vegetarian food taken as crunchy snacks. Grahamites were Graham’s followers and believed in a healthy vegetarian diet. They started the vegetarian moment and created graham crackers, graham bread, and graham flour and spread awareness all around.
In 1898, the United States, National Biscuit Company, started mass production of graham crackers for the first time. In the early 1910’s Loose Wile Biscuit Company had started mass production. They produced cookies with yeast added dough and food flavours. They used fermentation method to combine different characteristics. To prevent breakage and blistering while baking, the dough was refrigerated for some time.

Graham crackers can be added into some recipes to make them healthy. It is a multipurpose snack. Crumbs of cookies are used to make pies crusts. Graham cracker crusts are very popular in the United States, and they are mass produces as well. People use crackers as layer, base or topping on cheesecakes.
Home Made Graham Cracker
2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter
2 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup Wheat flour
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup brown sugar
In a bowl, add all the ingredients as mentioned above, wheat flour, all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda and ground cinnamon.
Using an electric hand blender, whish well brown sugar, vanilla essence, and honey altogether.
Now, add mixture and flour to make a dough. Knead the dough and put into the refrigerator for near about 60 minutes (1hour).
Preheat the oven and heat at 175 degrees. Prepare a baking tray and spread parchment paper on the tray surface.
Spread the dough (1/8-inch layer) in the prepared baking tray. With a cookie cutter, cut it into squares.
Now, bake the crackers for 10 minutes until they turn golden brown.
